Custom Backgrounds

What this internship is

Backgrounds are the layer most people never name but always feel — the textured backdrop behind a cover, the branded scene behind a stream or video, the wallpaper that makes a phone or page feel like it belongs to the brand. As a Custom Backgrounds intern, you build the environments that make everything else pop, working alongside the cover, video, and web teams.

This is atmosphere and texture work: lighting, depth, and mood that supports the subject without stealing from it. You'll learn to build a background that does its job by knowing when to step back.

What you'll do

• Create custom backgrounds and backdrops for covers, social profiles, video sets, and web pages
• Build textures, gradients, and scenes that match an artist or project's mood and palette
• Work with the cover, video (Universal Media), and web teams so backgrounds fit their final use
• Produce multiple resolutions and aspect ratios for different placements
• Keep layered, editable files organized so backgrounds can be adjusted later

What you'll learn

• Texture, lighting, depth, and mood in image design
• Designing supporting elements that elevate the subject instead of competing with it
• Producing assets at the right sizes for cover art, video, and web
• Non-destructive, layered file workflows
